The Mineral Sands is a great place to stay while you discover Maryborough and its surrounds.  Much of the city's character has been preserved in its houses, which are built mostly from local timbers.  In fact Maryborough has the largest concentration of traditional "Queenslanders" in Australia many of which are open to the public.

Heritage City Walk
Be transported back in time and discover Maryborough's colourful past on a tour with "Mary Heritage", departing from City Hall at 9am each weekday.  Dressed in period costume, "Mary Heritage" will take you on a free, one-hour guided tour of the city.  See some of our city's 28 buildings and sites of historical interest.

Wharf Street Precinct
Contains many of Maryborough's early buildings and an atmosphere of old world charm.  Stroll around the historic buildings and bring back echoes of bygone days, sailing ships, greasy wool and bewildered immigrants.  Check out the Bond Store Museum, the Customs House Museum and look in at the Heritage Centre to see if your ancestors were one of 21,000 listed as disembarking here.

Heritage Market Day
Held every Thursday and incorporating the firing of the time cannon at 1 pm under the supervision of the city ambassadors - the Town Crier and "Mary Heritage".  The heritage market offers a wide range of goods from arts and crafts, fresh produce and street entertainment.
Head to the city centre.

Queen's Park
A beautifully kept parkland with rolling lawns and magical banyan trees.  Walk down to the river bank or take a ride on the Mary Ann steam train every market day.
Head to the city centre.

Brennan & Geraghty's Store Museum
Visit a remarkable store that had one hundred and one years of trading (1871 - 1972) and still has the stock to prove it!  The store is open seven days a week excluding Christmas Day and Good Friday, however, the adjoining houses are not open to the public.
Located at 64 Lennox Street.

Olds Engine House
A visit is a must for the mechanically minded.  Olds Engine House is a working engineering workshop, foundry and engine house with steam powered lathes and machinery; working model steam and hot air engines.  You can see highly skilled pattern makers, foundry moulders, machinists and fitters producing quality products such as marine propellers, specialised hospital beds and heritage garden furniture.  One of the specialist hospital beds was presented to Pope John Paul II in 1994.  Guided tours each Thursday or by arrangement.
